Barrett, The Honors College Thesis/Creative Project Collection


Barrett, the Honors College accepts high performing, academically engaged students and works with them in collaboration with all of the other academic units at Arizona State University. All Barrett students complete a thesis or creative project, supervised and defended in front of a faculty committee. The thesis or creative project allows students to explore an intellectual interest and produce an original piece of scholarly research. The thesis or creative project is a student’s opportunity to explore areas of academic interest with greater intensity than is possible in a single course. It is also an opportunity to engage with professors, nationally recognized in their fields and specifically interested and committed to working with honors students. This work provides tangible evidence of a student’s research, writing and creative skills to graduate schools and/or prospective employers.

This research was aimed at identifying the problems of the kidney transplant market and then proposing business-minded solutions. The methodology that was used to compile research was an industry analysis, a business model canvas, the lean startup methodology, academic papers, popular culture references, previous and present marketing campaigns, an internship at a local hospital, and organ transplant databases. This thesis examines the marketing efforts of Arizona Microcredit Initiative (AMI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by Arizona State University students. The mission of AMI is to empower and education underserved entrepreneurs in greater Phoenix through microloans up to $5,000, free consulting and free business education workshops. The January 12, 2010 Haiti earthquake, which hit Port-au-Prince in the late afternoon, was the cause of over 220,000 deaths and $8 billion in damages – roughly 120% of national GDP at the time. This thesis was written in order to understand the history of US fire policy and how aircraft’s involvement in the fire scene has evolved since its first usage as a surveillance tool.
