The Arizona Department of Transportation is the primary decision maker for federal-aid transportation plans and investments in non-metropolitan areas with populations below 50,000. However, ADOT understands the importance of consulting with local governments before, during, and after the decision making process to ensure participation results in improved transportation system planning, performance and project development. Therefore, ADOT has developed guidelines that outline the consultation process, and defines how and when outreach will occur with officials from rural areas. The result of an application to the Arizona Department of Transportation Planning Assistance for Rural Areas (PARA) Program to conduct a multimodal transportation study to address transportation issues in the community. The purpose of the study is to identify the most critical multimodal transportation infrastructure and service needs within the Picture Rocks study area and recommend a program of short-range (0-5 years), mid-range (6-10 years), and long-range (11-20 years) improvements.
The State Management Plan documents the procedures of the State of Arizona in managing and utilizing federal funds to assist public, Tribal, private for-profit and private non-profit passenger transportation systems in Arizona. This document updates the 2007 plan and includes the State’s objectives, policies, procedures, and administrative requirements, in a form that is readily accessible to ADOT staff, the Federal Transit Administration, potential subrecipients, and the public.
This study is funded by the Arizona Department of Transportation Multimodal Planning Division Planning Assistance for Rural Areas (PARA) program. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pedestrian safety concerns and evaluate pedestrian infrastructure needs on the Gila River Indian Community and recommend a program of multimodal enhancements to address the identified needs.
Through the Planning Assistance for Rural Areas program, the Arizona Department of Transportation and the City of Yuma cooperatively conducted the Yuma Expressway Corridor Study to develop a preliminary assessment and feasibility of a proposed corridor alignment along the south and western portions of the City of Yuma. Improvements to this corridor would benefit the region by addressing a number of different customers traveling around and through the region.

The Southern Greenlee County Trails Study identified a framework of trails that could be developed to attract modern-day adventurers and naturalists to explore the rich natural and cultural heritage of Greenlee County. The study identifies trails that Greenlee County residents can use for recreation, enabling them to engage in healthy life choices with limited bike-car or pedestrian-car conflicts. Long dependent on mining as its economic base, this trails plan is another step Greenlee County is taking to diversify its economy by increasing tourism.

The Federal Transit Administration Section 5311 Rural Public Transportation Program provides program funds for capital, operating, and administrative assistance to local public bodies, nonprofit organizations, and operators of public transportation services in non-urbanized areas. The Public Transportation Division of the Arizona Department of Transportation provides financial and technical assistance to transit agencies throughout the state to enhance the access of people in non-urbanized areas to health care, shopping, education, employment, public services and recreation.
The State And Local Arizona Documents (SALAD) collection contains documents published by the State of Arizona, its Counties, incorporated Cities or Towns, or affiliated Councils of Government; documents produced under the auspices of a state or local agency, board, commission or department, including reports made to these units; and Salt River Project, a licensed municipality. ASU is a primary collector of state publications and makes a concerted effort to acquire and catalog most materials published by state and local governmental agencies.
