The present study aimed to advance the current understanding of the relation between disability and subjective well-being by examining the extent to which different facets of subjective well-being (life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect) change before and after disability onset, and the extent to which age and type of disability moderate such changes. Multiphase growth-curve models to prospective longitudinal survey data from Waves 1-16 of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey (N = 3,795; mean age = 50.22; age range: 16-99; 51% women). The mobile crowdsensing (MCS) applications leverage the user data to derive useful information by data-driven evaluation of innovative user contexts and gathering of information at a high data rate. Such access to context-rich data can potentially enable computationally intensive crowd-sourcing applications such as tracking a missing person or capturing a highlight video of an event. An evolving understanding of elastomeric polymer nanocomposites continues to expand commercial, defense, and industrial products and applications. This work explores the thermomechanical properties of elastomeric nanocomposites prepared from bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) and three amine-terminated poly(propylene oxides) (Jeffamines). The Jeffamines investigated include difunctional crosslinkers with molecular weights of 2,000 and 4,000 g/mol and a trifunctional crosslinker with a molecular weight of 3,000 g/mol. Additionally, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were added, up to 1.25 wt%, to each thermoset. The traditional access control system suffers from the problem of separation of data ownership and management. 企业并购是经济管理领域长盛不衰的研究话题,也是企业高投资与高风险并行的战略举措。并购后对品牌进行有效整合是实现并购价值的重要过程,只有对并购后的品牌进行整合,才能使并购取得应有的并购协同效应。在消费者导向意识不断深化,服务导向逐渐成为服务行业的主流导向的背景下,研究品牌并购中消费者感知及其忠诚显得尤为重要。企业并购过程中面临的风险与挑战之一就是消费者未必对商家的品牌并购行为买账,消费者忠诚受到影响。尽管已有学者提出品牌并购的企业更应关注消费者及其忠诚,但目前从消费者感知角度研究企业或品牌并购行为的研究较少。为了揭示消费者感知品牌并购的过程,探究品牌并购是否及如何影响消费者感知及忠诚,本文基于深度访谈法与情境下问卷调查法分析了消费者对品牌并购的感知及结果,并设计两项研究:研究一在理论分析与前人研究基础上,通过对消费者的深度访谈,确立了消费者感知的品牌并购价值的四个维度,分别为品牌联想、产品联想、组织联想与人员服务品质,并在借鉴前人研究结合本研究的具体背景,得出消费者感知的品牌并购价值的测量条目。研究二通过情境模拟下的问卷调查法,检验了消费者感知品牌并购价值、感知质量、感知价值、品牌忠诚、产品涉入以及品牌知名度之间的关系。在此基础上,本文对L教育集团在实践运营过程中的品牌并购案例进行详细分析,发现了L教育集团发起品牌并购的原因以及并购过程中存在的问题和改进建议。 研究结果显示:(1)消费者感知的品牌并购价值的四个维度分别为品牌联想、产品联想、组织联想与人员服务品质;(2)消费者感知品牌并购价值与感知质量有显著正相关关系,表明消费者感知品牌并购价值能够提高消费者的感知质量;(3)消费者感知质量对其感知价值有显著的正向影响,表明感知质量正向预测消费者的感知价值水平;(4)消费者感知质量对其品牌忠诚有显著的积极作用;(5)消费者感知品牌并购价值与消费者感知价值存在显著的正相关关系;(6)消费者感知品牌并购价值对消费者品牌忠诚的路径系数达到显著性水平;(7)消费者感知质量在感知并购价值与感知价值、品牌忠诚之间起部分中介作用;(8)产品涉入与品牌知名度在消费者感知并购价值与感知质量的关系之间起调节作用。 Dissertation/Thesis

Component simulation models, such as agent-based models, may depend on spatial data associated with geographic locations. Composition of such models can be achieved using a Geographic Knowledge Interchange Broker (GeoKIB) enabled with spatial-temporal data transformation functions, each of which is responsible for a set of interactions between two independent models. The use of autonomous interaction models allows model composition without alteration of the composed component models. An interaction model must handle differences in the spatial resolutions between models, in addition to differences in their temporal input/output data types and resolutions. Over a million children who attend American public schools experience homelessness every year. This study investigates the musical lives of children experiencing homelessness through the lens of the ecological systems theory (Bronfenbrenner, 1979). Children encounter music in a variety of ways and develop their own lexicon of meaning that depicts the relationships they have in, through, and around music. Relationship connections in this study were depicted through a system of relationship networks (Neal & Neal, 2013). Anti-trafficking research recognizes several populations affected by Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) in the United States (U.S.), yet it has not yet recognized long-term survivors, whose experiences of CSE occurred from the 1960s through the 2000s. Rendering long-term survivors invisible erases the history of CSE in the U.S. and prevents an accurate assessment of the true scope of CSE that it extends from infancy through adulthood. Structural details about viruses and their components are important for understanding the many steps in a virus life-cycle, including entry into host cells, replication, assembly, and release of progeny virions. X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy, including cryo-EM, have been used extensively for virus structural studies. Reionization is the phase transition of intergalactic atoms from being neutral to becoming fully ionized. This process began ∼400 Myr after the Big Bang, when the first stars and black holes began emitting ionizing radiation from stellar photospheres and accretion disks. Reionization completed when all of the neutral matter between galaxies became ionized ∼1 Gyr after the Big Bang, and the Universe became transparent as it is today. Characteristics of the galaxies that drove reionization are mostly unknown. This dissertation aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and drawbacks of promising fall prevention strategies in individuals with stroke by rigorously analyzing the biomechanics of laboratory falls and compensatory movements required to prevent a fall. Ankle-foot-orthoses (AFOs) and functional electrical stimulators (FESs) are commonly prescribed to treat foot drop. Despite well-established positive impacts of AFOs and FES devices on balance and gait, AFO and FES users fall at a high rate. The applications utilizing nanoparticles have grown in both industrial and academic areas because of the very large surface area to volume ratios of these particles. One of the best ways to process and control these nanoparticles is fluidization. In this work, a new microjet and vibration assisted (MVA) fluidized bed system was developed in order to fluidize nanoparticles. The current study aims to explore factors affecting trust in human-drone collaboration. A current gap exists in research surrounding civilian drone use and the role of trust in human-drone interaction and collaboration. Specifically, existing research lacks an explanation of the relationship between drone pilot experience, trust, and trust-related behaviors as well as other factors. Limited spectral access motivates technologies that adapt to diminishing resources and increasingly cluttered environments. A joint positioning-communications system is designed and implemented on \acf{COTS} hardware. This system enables simultaneous positioning of, and communications between, nodes in a distributed network of base-stations and unmanned aerial systems (UASs). The traditional site of Rachel's Tomb is located just south of Jerusalem on the border of Bethlehem. Riparian areas are an important resource, especially in the arid southwest, for many wildlife species. Understanding species occurrence in areas dominated by non-native vegetation is important to determine if management should be implemented. Saltcedar (Tamarix spp.) is one of the most prevalent non-native trees in riparian areas in the southwest United States and can alter vegetation structure, but little is known about how medium and large carnivores use stands of saltcedar. Deep neural networks (DNNs) have had tremendous success in a variety of statistical learning applications due to their vast expressive power. Most applications run DNNs on the cloud on parallelized architectures. There is a need for for efficient DNN inference on edge with low precision hardware and analog accelerators. This dissertation develops a heuristic—one I call the iterative narrative reflection framework—for rhetorically engaged, data-driven teacherly theory building using Kenneth Burke’s frames of acceptance and rejection. Teacher-scholars regularly develop curricula and lesson plans informed by theory and prior experience, but the daily practice of teaching and learning with students rarely plays out as expected. The study at hand investigated the effects of guidance and type of occlusion on the prediction of shot direction during a soccer penalty kick. Seventy participants took an online survey where they had to guess the direction of a penalty kick from the perspective of a goalkeeper. Half the participants were placed in a group where they had access to tips on what to look for, while the other group had no tips provided. This study evaluates the use of plant-extracted silica solution as a bio-based grout material for improvement of granular soils. Understanding intratumor heterogeneity and their driver genes is critical to designing personalized treatments and improving clinical outcomes of cancers. Such investigations require accurate delineation of the subclonal composition of a tumor, which to date can only be reliably inferred from deep-sequencing data (>300x depth). The resulting algorithm from the work presented here, incorporates an adaptive error model into statistical decomposition of mixed populations, which corrects the mean-variance dependency of sequencing data at the subclonal level and enables accurate subclonal discovery in tumors sequenced at standard depths (30-50x). This research summarizes the characterization of the constituent materials of a unidirectional composite for use in a finite element model. Specifically the T800s-F3900 composite from Toray Composites, Seattle, WA. Testing was carried out on cured polymer matrix provided by the manufacturer and single fiber specimen. The material model chosen for the polymer matrix was MAT 187 (Semi-Analytical Model for Polymers) which allowed for input of the tension, compression, and shear load responses. This dissertation investigates the mechanisms that lead to fouling, as well as how an understanding of how these mechanisms can be leveraged to mitigate fouling. To limit fouling on feed spacers, various coatings were applied. The results showed silver-coated biocidal spacers outperformed other spacers by all measures. The control polypropylene spacers performed in-line with, or better than, the other coatings. Polypropylene’s relative anti-adhesiveness is due to its surface free energy (SFE; 30.0 +/- 2.8 mN/m), which, according to previously generated models, is near the ideal SFE for resisting adhesion of bacteria and organics (~25 mN/m). Serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) with X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) has enabled the determination of damage-free protein structures at ambient temperatures and of reaction intermediate species with time resolution on the order of hundreds of femtoseconds. However, currently available XFEL facility X-ray pulse structures waste the majority of continuously injected crystal sample, requiring a large quantity (up to grams) of crystal sample to solve a protein structure.
