Description
Handwritten letter from Rubén Darío to José Santos Zelaya, President of the Nicaraguan Republic, about the liberation of Ricardo Trigueros. José Santos Zelaya (November 1, 1853 - May 17, 1919) was a military and Nicaraguan politician who served as President of Nicaragua from 1893 to 1909. Rubén Darío was in Madrid when the letter was written.

- Ricardo Trigueros Mora was a Salvadoran wealthy banker. He was married to Julia Contreras Cañas, who was Dario's sister in law. Ricardo Trigueros Mora was in prison in Guatemala, during the government of Manuel Estrada Cabrera (November 21, 1857 - September 24, 1924).
- In this letter there is a reference to a person called "Dr. Prowe". This person was likely Herman Prowe (January 22, 1861 - October 3, 1910), a Ruben's German friend, whom he met in El Salvador in 1890.
- In this letter there is a reference to a person called "Root". This person was likely Elihu Root (February 15, 1845 – February 7, 1937). Elihu Root was an American lawyer and statesman. He was U.S. Secretary of State (July 19, 1905 - January 27, 1909) with American President Theodore Roosevelt.
