Note This broadside is about Chang Woo Gow, called in Japan, China Ootoko (original Chinese name was Zhan Wujiu 詹五九). Chang Woo Gow (Chang the Giant) was connected to P.T. Barnum’s circus show. He was touted as the tallest man in the world at this time at 42m (7.874 ft) in height. He was born in 1840 at formerly Anhui province now Jiangxi province in Qing dynasty. He was found by Americans P.T. Barnum’s circus show when he was working in an ink factory in Shanghai. After a world tour with the circus, he was naturalized in Great Britain, married an English girl and spent the rest of his life there.
